Kenya plummets down FIFA rankings

By Omondi Onyatta
Kenya’s soccer tribulations hit a new high after the country dropped four places to the 134th position in the latest FIFA rankings. This development comes in the wake of Harambee Stars’ 1-0 defeat at the hands of Burundi in a CHAN fixture on Sunday.
The unimpressive ranking is symbolic of the current confusion that has entangled the national team. Only this week, head coach Henri Michel tendered his resignation over what he termed as differences with Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
The Frenchman had only been in charge for four months—his exit being a contradiction of his entry into the local football scene. In his two games in charge, Kenya had lost its matches against South Africa and Tanzania.
Spain still sits atop the FIFA rankings—the fifth consecutive year they have done so. Ivory Coast remains Africa’s top team at the 15th position.
