Tusker, Gor shift attention to TPL after continental elimination

By Sports Editor Omondi Onyatta
Kenya’s representatives in continental club championships Tusker FC and Gor Mahia will shift their focus to local football after bowing out to Egyptian opposition over the weekend. Both teams failed to do what Sofapaka did two years ago after losing to Al Ahly and ENPPI.
Gor assistant coach John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla, whose team lost to ENPPI by a 3-0 aggregate score, said that the side would now concentrate on capturing the league title. “We will ensure that we avoid costly mistakes that cost us the title towards the end of last season,” Ogolla said.
Ogolla further said that players and the technical bench have learned a lot from last year. “Last year was a learning experience for us. We still have the hunger for the trophy,” he stated.
Tusker, who piped K’Ogalo to the title last season, lost 2-0 to Al Ahly in Cairo and bowed out on a 4-1 aggregate after losing 2-1 in the first leg. So far, the brewers have made a blistering start to defending their title. The side boasts some of the brightest prospects of Kenyan football, such as David Ochieng, Jesse Were and Peter Opiyo. Coach Robert Matano has previously indicated that he has a squad capable of defending their TPL title for the third time in a row.
