Satima Wildlife Club organised a one day public speaking training forum to three shortlisted finalists in Satima Wildlife Clubs Essay and Art Competition 2011 at the University of Nairobi (UoN), council chambers. The theme of the competition was why save wildlife and forests.
The finalists were , Diana Rop and Naomi Wanjiku, undergraduate students from UoN and Eric Otieno, an undergraduate student at Kenyatta University, Mombasa Campus.
In the morning session, the three gave their speeches on the theme before trainers Mr. Magayu K. Magayu and Ms. Karen Rothmyer, who advised them on how to deliver their message effectively before the judges in the afternoon. Ms. Nigel Hunter, East Africa Wildlife Society (EAWS) and other observers also contributed in the training session.
The afternoon session was breathtaking. The speakers were energized and they all did their best to impress judges William Pike, Jedida Oneko and mike Norton-Griffiths.
In the end, Eric Otieno emerged the winner, closely followed by Naomi Wanjiku and Diana Rope. The three will be attending Satima Wildlife Club Awards ceremony to be held early December.
The contest was open to primary, secondary and tertiary students and was sponsored by The East African Wild Life Society’s Satima Initiative, the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Northern Rangelands Trust and Lewa conservancy.
