Harambee Stars misstreatment; Kenyans hit Nigerians with tweefs

By Magda Kanjejo
Social media has been on the lime light in Kenya lately because of all the wrong reasons. As a matter of fact, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) is currently combing the social media for hate mongers following the disputed March 4 General Elections.
Kenyans are at it again and this time round we are on the spotlight for a very different thing; ‘defending’ our national football team Harambee Stars for being ‘mistreated’ in Nigeria.
What started out as a simple story on how the national team was apparently being mistreated lead to a huge ball of fury and exchange of words between Kenya and Nigeria on Twitter.
Pictures of Harambee Starts training in what looked like a school playing ground started doing rounds on the social media and Kenyans online started a tweef which by the end of yesterday was trending globally. Here are some of the tweets:
#SomeoneTellNigeria Only in their movies a woman puts poison in her husbands food. And then taste it to know if its enough, without her dying
#SomeoneTellNigerians its only on their movies where a ghost looks left and right before crossing the road”
#SomeoneTellNigerians to treat our football team (Harambee Stars) the way they treat our ladies
#SomeoneTellNigerians Kenyan women wear weaves to enhance beauty, Naija women wear weaves to confirm gender!
RT @okinawacircus#someonetellnigerians We stopped watching Naija movies wen someone died in a suit n came back as a ghost wearing jeans!
#someonetellkenyans the only reason they win all those races is cuz they r promised food at the finish line!”
#SomeoneTellKenya you know all our Nigerian stars, your TV stations show our movies, but we dont even know where you are on the map..
#someoneTellKenya the Harambeeboys are playing African Champions and they should be glad.
#someonetellkenya we don’t look like burnt walking sticks with a ball on top in nigeria
