Notices you shouldn’t read

By Caleb Mutua
Notice boards are of paramount significance in any learning institution, especial higher learning institutions.
Faculties and departments post news, internal and external memos, change of lecture venue notices and exam timetables to communicate to staff and students.
Advertisements are also placed in these boards.
Students too are allowed to post their notices and that is where the problem begins. I am not trying to be a back seat driver here because I also post notices on these boards but the notices students post are wanting.
There is one particular notice that I will never forget. A student had lost her National ID, her Student ID and several ATM cards and she was requesting students to help her find her stuff back. Someone wrote below the notice, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!” Even though I laughed, that was very mean.
Some advertisers think of  students as sitting ducks. They thus lead them up the garden path by advertising inauthentic products.
Other students pin their notices on top of other notices even when they are not outdated, perhaps colleagues they are at odds with.
The administration should certainly draw a line in the sand when it comes to posting notices in the notice boards. It should ensure that only informative, objective and educational notices and advertisements are displayed.
