Government set to investigate doping allegations

The Kenyan government is set to open independent investigations into the doping claims that have haunted the athletic sector for months. This comes after a documentary by a German journalist, Hajo Seppelt, claimed that most Kenyan athletes engage in regular doping.

While making these revelations, Athletics Kenya (AK) secretary general Isaiah Kiplagat added that the decision was also informed by constant pressure from the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA). “WADA has asked us to submit a report concerning these allegations. Unfortunately, our hands are tied since we cannot carry out these investigations hence the government is set to investigate them,” Kiplagat said.

The task of forming an independent committee to investigate these allegations would be left to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Kiplagat used the occasion to reiterate the association’s commitment to clearing the air about the allegations.

“We are glad to of help during the investigations. However, these latest developments will not interfere with our activities,” Kiplagat said.

Doping has become a major issue to the sporting world in recent times. In athletics circles, Mathew Kisorio became the latest victim after he was suspended for testing positive for anabolic steroid.
